The U.N Secretary-General António Guterres who arrived in Kabul on Wednesday and appeared at a press conference later in the day, called on some countries to stop supporting terrorism.
He warned that the continuation of support for terrorism will damage those countries.
"My message to any country that supports terrorism anywhere in the world is that this is the wrong thing to do," he said.
The UN chief said the only way to end the war in Afghanistan is through talks with anti-government armed groups.
"Afghanistan is not only suffering the impact of a national insurgency but it is suffering the presence of a large number of terrorist groups of all kinds of nationalities around the world. I hope the general assembly of the United Nations will approve next week the reform of our counter terrorism structure," he added.
Meanwhile, he called on Kabul and Islamabad to end their problems through talks.
"My duty as a secretary general is to use my good offices to promote cooperation between the two countries (Afghanistan and Pakistan) for them to be able to fight together this threat of terrorism," the UN chief stated.
The UN secretary general's visit comes at a time that deadly incidents have taken dozens of lives in the past few weeks in Kabul alone. Hundreds others were wounded in the incidents.
